# Add an intro and an outro

Open a clip on a short video of your own and close it on another: what an intro or an outro can be, how it plays, and how to preview the whole clip.

An intro is a video of your own that plays before the clip, and an outro is one that plays after it: a logo sting, a channel card, a call to follow. A clip takes one of each.

## Add one

1. Open the clip in the editor and choose **Media**.
2. Under **Intro and outro**, press **Upload** on the **Intro** row or on the **Outro** row.
3. Choose the video. The row then shows its name and how long it plays.

An intro or an outro is an MP4 or WebM video of up to 100 MB. Its first 5 seconds play, or all of it when it is shorter, with its own sound.

The intro and the outro fill the frame, and the clip's captions, music and sound settings stay with the clip between them. **Remove** on a row takes that video off.

## Watch the whole clip

The editor's player plays the clip alone, so you can keep working on it. **Preview with intro and outro** plays the clip the way it will be rendered, from the start of the intro to the end of the outro, and **Back to editing** returns to the editor.

> **Note:** A clip with an intro or an outro cannot be split. Remove them first, split the clip, and then add them to the clip you keep. [Trim and split a clip](https://www.snipri.com/docs/trim-and-split-a-clip) covers splitting.

## Save your edits

The intro and the outro wait until you press **Save changes**, and the clip renders again with them at no cost. [Edit a clip](https://www.snipri.com/docs/edit-a-clip) shows where every other tool is.
