# Add music to a clip

Put a track of your own under a clip, choose where it starts and whether it loops, and set the volume and fades of the music and of the clip's sound.

The **Music** tab holds the clip's sound: the voice it was recorded with, and a track of your own under it. Both apply to the clip itself, after any cuts, while an intro or an outro keeps its own sound.

## Add a track

1. Open the clip in the editor and choose **Music**.
2. Under **Music**, press **Upload music**, or drop the file on **Add a soundtrack**.
3. Set **Music volume** so the voice stays clear over it.

The music can be an MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG file of up to 50 MB. You choose where it starts and whether it loops, and set the volume and the fades of the music and of the clip's own sound.

**Replace music** swaps the track for another file, and **Remove music** takes it off.

## Choose where it plays

Open **Timing & fades** under the track:

- **Music starts at**: the moment of the clip the track comes in.
- **Start in file**: where in the track to begin, to skip a slow opening.
- **Music fade in** and **Music fade out**: how long the music takes to rise at its start and to fall away at the end.
- **Loop to end of clip**: plays the track again if it ends before the clip does.

A track that starts after the clip has ended is never heard, and the panel says so.

## The clip's own sound

Under **Original sound**, **Original volume** sets the level of the recording, and **Fade in & out** holds **Original fade in** and **Original fade out**, to ease the voice in at the start or out at the end. **Reset original sound** puts all of it back as it was recorded.

## Save your edits

The sound waits until you press **Save changes**, and the clip renders again with it at no cost. [Add an intro and an outro](https://www.snipri.com/docs/add-an-intro-and-outro) covers the videos that keep their own sound, and [Edit a clip](https://www.snipri.com/docs/edit-a-clip) shows where every other tool is.
