The transcript is the clip's words, each timed to the moment it is spoken, and the captions are drawn from it. A word you correct here is the word the captions show. On a wide screen the words stand beside the video under **Transcript**, and on a smaller one they are the **Words** tab.

## Correct a word

1. Click the word in the transcript. It opens in the bar under the transcript, ready to type over.
2. Type the right word.
3. Press Enter to move on to the next word, or Shift Enter to go back to the one before, so a whole clip can be checked from the keyboard. Escape closes the word.

The bar says where the word falls in the clip, and whether it is hidden or cut. A correction changes the captions only: the sound and the picture stay as they were recorded.

> **Note:** Every word needs some text. While one is empty, the editor shows **Fill in empty words before saving**, and pressing it takes you to the first empty word.

## Find and replace

Type in **Find in transcript…** and the transcript narrows to the phrases that match, each with its time in the clip.

To change a word everywhere it appears, type the new spelling in **Replace with…** and press **Replace all**. It replaces whole words only, and the line under the field counts the matches before you press. **Select them** selects every match instead, so you can hide or cut them together.

## Hide words or cut them

A word you no longer want can leave the captions alone, or leave the clip:

- **Hide from captions** takes the word out of the captions, while its sound and its picture stay in the clip. **Show in captions** puts it back.
- **Cut from video** removes the word together with its footage, so the clip gets shorter. **Restore to video** puts it back.

For one word, open it and use the buttons beside it in the bar. For several, press **Select**, click the words, and choose what to do with all of them. Shift-click selects a run of words at once, **Clear** empties the selection and **Done** stops selecting.

Cutting words is how you take out a stumble or a filler word. To change where the clip starts or ends, use [Trim and split a clip](https://www.snipri.com/docs/trim-and-split-a-clip).

## Add emoji

Open a word and press **Add emoji**, the face beside it. Pick an emoji from the list or type a word into **Search emoji…** to find one, and **Remove** takes it off again.

A clip takes up to 12 emoji, and each caption shows one: the emoji of the first of its words that has one.

When an emoji will not show, the bar says why: its word is hidden or cut, an earlier word in the same caption has one, or the caption style does not draw emoji. Emoji come with the current caption styles, so on an older clip pick a style on **Captions** first.

## Save your edits

The changes wait until you press **Save changes**, and the clip renders again with them at no cost.
