# How long a job takes

What each step of a Snipri job does, how long a typical job takes, whether you can close the tab, and when a job that stops moving is marked as failed.

A job runs on Snipri's side, not in your browser, so you don't have to watch it.

A typical job takes about 43 minutes, longer when a recording gives many clips. The Studio shows its estimate while the job runs and updates it as each step finishes.

## The steps

The Studio's progress bar names each step as it starts:

1. **Queued**: the video is in and the job is waiting its turn to start.
2. **Transcribing**: the audio becomes a transcript with a timing for every word.
3. **Selecting highlights**: the transcript is read and every moment that could stand on its own is scored.
4. **Rendering**: each chosen moment is cut, framed and captioned.
5. **Done**: the clips are in My clips.

While a file is still uploading, the bar counts the upload instead, and says how long the processing after it should take.

## Can I close the tab?

Once the job has started, yes. It keeps running and its clips land in My clips. What can't be left is an upload: the file comes from your browser, so keep the Studio open until the upload bar is full. After that, **Hide** clears the job from the Studio while it keeps running in the background.

## When a job stops moving

If something on Snipri's side stops a job partway, the job starts again on its own, and you only see a failure when that doesn't work either.

A job whose progress has not moved for 30 minutes is marked as failed. While it waits its turn in the queue it has 3 hours, and while it renders 90 minutes. A failed job is not counted.

[Why a job failed, and what to do](https://www.snipri.com/docs/why-a-job-failed) lists the messages a failed job shows.
