Add text to a clip
Put a title, a name or a note over the video, choose its font, size and colour, place it by dragging and set when it shows on the timeline.
On this page
A text layer is a line you type over the video, apart from the captions: a title, a name, a handle or a note. It burns into the clip with the captions when you save.
Add a text layer
#- Open the Text tab and press Add text, or press T anywhere in the editor.
- Type the words. The new layer opens for typing on the video, and its words are also in the field under Text layer.
- Drag the layer on the video to place it.
- To change when it shows, open Timeline & layers under the video and drag the layer's bar. Pull either end of the bar to make it show for longer or for less time.
The new layer starts at the playhead. While you drag it on the video, Shift keeps it moving in one direction and Alt lets it go past the guides it would otherwise snap to.
A clip takes up to 8 text layers of up to 120 characters each, and 4 images. An image can be PNG, JPEG or WebP, under 5 MB.
Change how it looks
#Select the layer on the video or on the timeline, and the Text tab shows its settings:
- Font: one of the fonts the captions offer, or Same as captions, which follows the caption font when you change it later.
- Size: how large the text is. You can also drag the handle on the selected layer to resize it.
- Color: the colour of the text, from the picker or from your brand colours.
To change the words of a layer already on the video, double-click it, or select it and press Enter.
Remove a layer
#Select it and press Delete layer, or press Delete. Undo brings it back until you save.
Tip: A line that belongs on every new clip, such as your handle, can live in your brand kit instead, which puts it on the clips of each new job. Set up your brand kit covers it.
Save your edits
#The layers wait until you press Save changes. Edit a clip shows where every other tool is, and Add images and video to a clip covers pictures and footage of your own.
