Why a job failed, and what to do

Every message the Studio shows when a job stops before it gives you clips, what each one means and how to fix it. A failed job never counts against a plan.

On this page

When a job stops before it gives you clips, the Studio names what went wrong in a title, says what to do in a sentence, and confirms the job didn't count against your plan. A video counts only when it comes back with clips, so a failure never uses one.

What to try first

#
  • Press Try again in the Studio. A failure on Snipri's side often clears on a second run.
  • Read the sentence under the title: most failures come from the file or the link, and it says which.
  • Where the Studio shows Technical detail, open it. It holds the raw error, which is what to send if you write in.

What each message means

#
#

The download service is unavailable on our side. Upload a video file that includes audio, or try again later.

This video has no audio track

#

The uploaded file contains video without audio. Snipri needs speech to choose clips. Upload a version that includes the original audio; if you downloaded it, choose a video + audio download.

No videos left on your plan

#

Every video your plan includes is used or still processing. A video counts only when it comes back with clips, so a failed job never uses one. Paid plans get their videos back every month, and a bigger plan has more.

Not enough videos left for this length

#

Each hour of a video, or part of one, counts as one video. Keep a shorter part with the timeframe. Paid plans get their videos back every month, and a bigger plan has more.

This video is longer than your plan covers

#

Each plan processes videos up to a set length. Keep a shorter part of the video with the timeframe, or move to a plan that covers longer videos.

Those clip settings don't fit this video

#

The part of the video you kept or the One clip setting didn't match the video once it was measured. Choose the settings again and resubmit.

Downloads are temporarily limited

#

The video host is limiting download requests. Wait a little, then try again.

This one timed out

#

The job stopped after running too long without finishing. That usually means an unusually long or very large source. Try again, or email hello@snipri.com and I'll look at this one directly.

The upload didn't finish

#

The connection dropped before the whole video reached us, so nothing was processed. Try again. If it keeps stopping partway, a smaller file or a steadier connection usually gets through.

#

We couldn't download this YouTube video. Check that the link goes to one public video that isn't private, members-only or still live, then try again, or upload the file instead.

That video couldn't be reached

#

The link points at something private, removed, or not visible without signing in. A public YouTube video or a direct file link works, and so does uploading the video or importing it from Dropbox or Google Drive.

Live streams can't be clipped

#

A live stream has no finished file to cut from. Once it's published as a normal video, upload that file instead.

That video is bigger than we can fetch

#

Videos fetched from a link are capped at one hour and a fixed file size. Uploading the file directly allows more, or trim it shorter and try again.

We couldn't find any speech

#

Snipri picks moments by reading what is said, so a video with no clear spoken audio has nothing to work from. A recording with talking in it is what this needs. Music and ambient video won't produce clips.

We couldn't read that video

#

The file is either damaged or in a container we can't decode. Re-exporting it as an MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio) fixes this almost every time.

#

The link didn't hand us a video. It may need a login, it may have expired, or the page it points at may have no video we can read. A public YouTube video or a direct file link works, and so does uploading the video or importing it from Dropbox or Google Drive.

Choosing moments failed

#

The transcript came through, but the step that picks moments stopped before it finished. Trying again usually clears it. If it doesn't, email hello@snipri.com and I'll take a look.

Something went wrong

#

The job stopped before it finished, and this one didn't report a reason I can explain. Try it again. If it fails twice, email hello@snipri.com and I'll look at what happened.

Still stuck

#

If a job fails twice, or times out, write to hello@snipri.com with the title the Studio showed, the technical detail if there was one, and the name of the video or the link you used.

How long a job takes explains when a job that stops moving is marked as failed.
