Choose the spoken language

Set the language a video is spoken in, or let Snipri detect it: the languages Snipri transcribes and captions, and when naming the language helps.

On this page

Snipri writes the captions in the language the video is spoken in. It can work that language out by itself, and it transcribes more accurately when you name it.

The languages

#

Snipri transcribes and captions 25 languages: Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese. Choose the spoken language when you add a video, or let Snipri detect it.

Captions stay in the language that is spoken: Snipri doesn't translate them.

Set the language

#

Once a video is in the Studio, the Spoken language field sits at the foot of the Video card. It starts on Detect automatically. Open it and choose the language from the list, where each one is named in English and in its own words.

The Studio remembers your choice in this browser, so your next video starts on the same language. Set it back to Detect automatically before you add a video in another language.

When to name it

#

Leave it on Detect automatically when a video is plainly in one language. Name the language when:

  • the video opens on music, silence or a few words in another language;
  • the speakers have strong accents, or the recording is noisy;
  • the language is close to another one on the list, such as Norwegian, Danish and Swedish.

Note: A video with no speech gives no clips in any language. Why a job failed, and what to do gives the message the Studio shows then.

Upload a video file covers the files the Studio takes.
